A research team from the Specialized Cardiac Surgery Clinic in Nizhny Novgorod, Russia, conducted a groundbreaking clinical study that investigated the potential role of molecular hydrogen (H2) in the surgical treatment of heart defects. The results show that molecular hydrogen improves the functional status of red blood cells and reduces complications associated with oxidative stress.

The study included 24 patients divided into two groups, with the first group receiving molecular hydrogen during surgery and the second group serving as a control. Specifically, these patients were those who underwent valve surgery using cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB).

Improvement in red blood cell functional status
Patients who received inhaled molecular hydrogen during surgery showed a significant improvement in red blood cell functional status. Increased electrophoretic mobility, increased metabolism and decreased red blood cell aggregation were observed compared to the control group. These findings suggest that H2 inhalation may play a key role in red blood cell protection during and after surgical procedures.

Reduced oxidative stress and improved cardiac function
The researchers also observed a significant decrease in the manifestations of oxidative stress, which was most pronounced one day after surgery. Statistically significant differences were also found in cardiac muscle function between the study and control groups on the first and third day after surgery. These findings support the notion that H2 not only has protective properties but may also improve outcomes after surgery by promoting better cardiac function.

An important advance in surgery
This study represents an important advance in the field of surgery, particularly in the treatment of heart valve disease using CPB. The use of molecular hydrogen as part of anaesthesia may provide better outcomes for patients by improving the functional status of red blood cells and reducing complications associated with oxidative stress. These findings open up new possibilities for improving procedures in cardiac surgery and offer hope for improved outcomes for patients worldwide.

Would you like to experience the effects of molecular hydrogen for yourself? Get the 3-in-1 hydrogen bottle, which allows you to inhale hydrogen, create hydrogen water directly in a glass bottle or in a PET bottle that you put on a small generator. Swap regular water for hydrogen water and reap all the benefits of hydrogen!
