Germany has the Hydrogen Atlas

This unique atlas is designed to help Germany achieve its ambitious goal of becoming a world hydrogen power. It does this by showing the opportunities for green hydrogen production at the level of German regions. This will be of importance to municipalities and investors.

The Hydrogen Atlas is part of Germany's strategic goal of becoming a climate-neutral nation by 2045.

"We want to make Germany a hydrogen republic. That's why we fund both industry-led hydrogen leadership projects and basic hydrogen research projects. One of these is the Hydrogen Atlas of Germany, published today," says the German Ministry for Education and Research.

Commenting on the purpose of the Hydrogen Atlas of Germany, Minister Bettina Stark-Watzinger said, among other things, "We want to support municipalities in verifying whether hydrogen development projects in their region are actually worthwhile."

Hydrogen is an important part of Germany's energy transition. It is intended to serve as a complement to renewable energy sources and to use the electricity generated by them in times of low demand to produce so-called green hydrogen.

Among the Länder, Lower Saxony ranks first in the potential for green hydrogen production, followed by Bavaria and Saxony-Anhalt.
